Thousands of families nationwide are preparing to pack their entire lives and move to new homes, towns, and experiences. While parents are busy with logistical details and financial arrangements, children face their own moving jitters in the midst of the moving shuffle. For these kids on the move, Soaring Moon Books (www.soaringmoon.com) offers ‘My Moving Activity Journal, 2nd Edition’ by Nicole L.V. Jaeger ($13.95, June 2007) (ISBN 978-0-9796547-0-1). Over 100 encouraging and interactive activities build confidence by creatively remembering homes, schools, friends, and communities while discovering the new ones. Other activities creatively cover topics such as moving pets or finding them new homes, packing, preparing for moving day, collecting addresses, staying in touch with old friends, making connections, safety, settling into a new community, and more.
As explained by author, Nicole Jaeger, “Moving is a unique opportunity to empower children by offering proactive, fun, and upbeat approaches to one of life’s biggest changes.” With over 100 interactive activities, ‘My Moving Activity Journal,’ guides kids through the transition of a big move. It includes games and puzzles, journaling questions that range from introspective to down-right silly, crafts and projects, topical scrapbook pages, moving poems, kid-oriented research and discovery ideas, and more. Each activity is designed to address specific moving-related questions, needs, and tasks in a creative and encouraging way.
“Most importantly, moving is a time when children need to keep having fun and families need to keep communication open,” adds Mrs. Jaeger. ‘My Moving Activity Journal’ is designed to do just that, and is the first in a series of activity journals covering various subjects. The individualized format makes the activity journal easily adaptable to all ages, from pre-readers to teens.
The second edition of ‘My Moving Activity Journal’ has received enthusiastic advance praise. According to Sally Smith, Tutor and Director of Unlocking Potential LLC in Fairhope, Alabama, “Children are quickly drawn in with clever games, projects and activities that get the moving experience started down a positive road that builds confidence all the way. From old to new, each part of the journey becomes special and chronicled forever in a unique keepsake.” Joanna V. of Stillwater, Minnesota adds, “Thanks so much for sharing the Moving Activity Journal with us. We think it’s awesome. Even after our move, my daughter gets hers out every so often and adds more to it. I thought that was a great testimony to its appeal! It really is a neat thing for kids to have to do while a move is happening. And, I think it will be really cool for them to look back on. It’s just a great idea all around!”
With the release of the second edition, Soaring Moon introduces the editing of Jacquelyn Wavrunek, an updated cover, and a change in distribution channel that allows deeper wholesale discounts and returnable status, making the book more widely available. Mrs. Jaeger has moved over 20 times, starting as a young child, and most recently, as the mother of a young child. She wrote her first moving journal during one of her own big moves at the age of fourteen. Having lived in nine different states from coast-to-coast, she has first-hand experience in moving for school, work, changes in family circumstances, and to be closer to family. This activity journal combines her own moving expertise, research, and appreciation of what it is like to be a little kid in the middle of a big change.
